This Shabbat is our Adoption Awareness Shabbat with Rabbi Susan Silverman

There are 400,000 children in the US foster care system and millions outside of family care worldwide. These children are at immense risk of disease, death, and human trafficking.

Please join us for the first program of our Ethical Awareness series as we welcome Rabbi Susan Silverman, Founding Director of Second Nurture: Every Child Deserves a Family -- and a Community. Rabbi Silverman will teach about the orphan and foster care crises and share her innovative approach to empower our families, and our community, to change the world.

5:40p Mincha, followed by Seuda Shelishit with a talk from Rabbi Susan Silverman: "Ohev Sholom and Second Nurture: If Every Child Deserves a Family, Why Not Us? A Conversation about Promoting Adoption Among the Families in Our Community"

Food Drive for the Capital Kosher Pantry
The Capital Kosher Pantry (CKP) helps numerous families in need who are part of our local Jewish community. In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, we are collecting ingredients that are more difficult for the CKP to secure so families can make challah and other baked goods. 

The most frequently requested foods are: pareve chocolate bits, oil (vegetable or canola), sugar, flour, honey, applesauce, raisins, and grape juice. All foods donated must be kosher, shelf stable, within the use by date, and in non-breakable packaging. We suggest that flour and sugar in paper wrapping be placed into ziplock bags to protect the packaging. Donations can be left in the box outside Sarah Shapiro's office.
