Mikvah Hours for the High Holidays: Ohev Sholom Mikvah Chaim will be open with both men's and women's hours for those who wish to immerse for Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur. Please visit ostns.org/hhmikvah for more information. 

High Holidays Decorum: Please help us maintain proper decorum during our prayer services. We ask that you do not enter the Sanctuary through the hallway doors during Musaf or the Dvar Torah. Able-bodied individuals will be directed downstairs via the social hall and asked to enter through the 16th Street Atrium. For security reasons, the 16th Street Entrance will be closed. The side entrance on Jonquil Street, ramp door, and downstairs stroller door will be open. We appreciate your cooperation and wish you a Shana Tova!

A Note About Temperature: During the High Holidays, temperatures in the sanctuary will be slightly cooler than usual. Please dress comfortably.

Lecture with Izabella Tabarovsky: "Holocaust in the USSR: A Forgotten Story Asking to Be Told" - Wednesday, September 27 7:15pm

In this talk, we will look at how the Shoah unfolded in the Nazi-occupied Soviet Union and how it served as a precursor to what would happen later in the extermination camps in Poland. We will talk about how and why the memory of those events was nearly erased all across the country, from Lithuania, to Latvia, to Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. We will also talk about how a small group of Soviet Jews refused to forget, and how this act of memory helped them reconnect to their Jewish identity, eventually leading them to freedom - for themselves and over a million others. 

We chose this date, right between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, because the Babi Yar massacre happened in Ukraine right on the eve of Yom Kippur. Let's come together to remember those events, reflect on the power of memory, and make sure, once again, that we never forget.

The talk is free, and a light desert reception will follow.

Food Drive for the Capital Kosher Pantry
The Capital Kosher Pantry (CKP) helps numerous families in need who are part of our local Jewish community. In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, we are collecting ingredients that are more difficult for the CKP to secure so families can make challah and other baked goods. 

The most frequently requested foods are: pareve chocolate bits, oil (vegetable or canola), sugar, flour, honey, applesauce, raisins, and grape juice. All foods donated must be kosher, shelf stable, within the use by date, and in non-breakable packaging. We suggest that flour and sugar in paper wrapping be placed into ziplock bags to protect the packaging. Donations can be left in the box outside Sarah Shapiro's office.
