High Holiday Mikvah Hours

MEN’S HIGH HOLIDAY HOURS

Erev Rosh Hashanah: Sunday, September 29, 6:00am-3:00pm
Erev Yom Kippur: Tuesday, October 8, 6:00am-3:00pm

It is a great spiritual merit to immerse in the mikvah before the High Holidays. Mikvah Chaim Men’s Mikvah will have open hours on Erev Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur for men to immerse.

  • The recommended donation is $20 for adults/$5 students.
  • Men are asked to bring their own towels.
  • Children under age 16 must be accompanied by their legal guardian.

Some women also have the custom to immerse Erev Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur. This is based on the understanding that the immersion serves to enhance our process of repentance.

  • Any woman who wishes to immerse for this purpose can make an appointment by visiting mikvahchaim.org or emailing attendant@mikvahchaim.org.
  • The recommended donation is $20 for adults/$5 students.
  • Children under age 16 must be accompanied by their legal guardian.

Please note that a pre-High Holiday immersion should not be accompanied by reciting the blessing over immersion (this is true for both men and women), and this immersion serves an entirely different function than immersing for the purposes of niddah (ritual purity.) For a discussion of women’s pre-holiday immersion, see Rabbi Yehuda Henkin’s Responsa on Contemporary Jewish Women’s Issues, p. 77-87. For guidelines and guidance regarding this type of immersion, please contact Maharat Friedman at MaharatRuth@ostns.org.
