How long is the trip?

If you are traveling with the group, the Rabbi and most other travelers will be leaving Washington, DC with an overnight flight on Wednesday, July 25, and returning on Thursday, August 2.

Which flight are Rabbi Herzfeld and his family traveling with?

Rabbi Herzfeld and his family are traveling from the Dulles Airport with a Lufthansa flight. If you would like to travel with them, please call our travel agent Mayer Reichberg, 718-436-1002, ext. 1

Where should we be flying into and departing from in Ukraine?

Please get a ticket flying into the Kyiv Borispil Airport on Thursday, July 26 and departing from the same airport on Thursday, August 2. Ideally you will fly in no later than 2pm so as to rest and participate in our late afternoon and evening program. 

Can I stay longer in Ukraine or get there earlier?

Yes and yes. Our program will begin on the late afternoon of Thursday, July 26 and end on the evening of Wednesday, August 1. Ukraine is a huge country with much to see. You can come earlier or stay longer to explore more of Ukraine. Some of the places you may consider visiting are Odessa, Uman, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv, and others.

Can I combine this with other trips?

Yes! For example, you could use this opportunity to travel to Israel. There are multiple daily flights between Kyiv and Tel Aviv. The direct flight with El Al costs under $300 and is 3 hours 20 minutes long.

Will we stay in good hotels?

Yes! We will be staying in Western-style hotels that host international tourists, with all the usual comforts (air conditioning included).

Where will be spend Shabbat?

We will be in Ukraine for a very special Shabbos - Shabbos Nachamu. We will celebrate it in Rivne (Rovno) in Western Ukraine. Among individuals associated with Rivne are the Maggid of Mezeritch, who lived here for several years, and Amos Oz, one of Israel’s most celebrated authors. Oz's mother came from there, and he dedicates 150 pages of his novel “A Tale of Light and Darkness” to the city – see this piece about it. We will be joining local Chabad for meals and services. On Shabbat day, we will have a walking tour of Jewish Rivne. For more information about Jewish Rivne, please see here.
