We are pleased to welcome Rabbi Uri and Dahlia Topolosky this Shabbat. Rabbi Uri and Dahlia Topolosky lead the community in Aspen Hill (Rockville), where they are growing a diverse, open-minded community, centered on modern orthodox values, in the beautiful and affordable neighborhood around the Berman Hebrew Academy. In the past few years, dozens of new Jewish households have taken root in the neighborhood, and the congregation has grown to over 60 member units! If you are interested in learning more about Aspen Hill and meeting the Rabbi and Rebbetzin who are inspiring the growth, please find the time to meet or learn with Rabbi Uri and Dahlia over Shabbat!

We are saddened to announce the passing of Rabbi Mel Glazer, father of Rabbi Ilan and Rafi Glazer and father-in-law of Sherri Vishner and Lauren Glazer. Shiva will be at the apartment of Rafi and Lauren (8560 Second Avenue, #513) through Tuesday, May 1 at 2pm.

We are saddened to announce the passing of our former president, Leonard Goodman, z”l. The funeral took place on Wednesday at Ohev Sholom. To read the eulogy delivered by Naomi Brodsky, visit ostns.org/lifecycle. Shiva will be at his home (7119 16th Street NW) through 7:30am Tuesday, May 1. The Ohev minyanim will meet there instead of at the shul.

The Tzedek Committee is raising money to send the Kharooty children to summer camp. Please consider donating to help the family continue to adjust to their new lives in the US. Kavod V Nichum will hold the 16th Annual North American Chevrah Kadisha and Jewish Cemetery Conference June 3-5 at Beth El. It is the preeminent Jewish funeral practices conference. You can get info on the conference here​​​​​. There are several Shabbat observant attendees. Ohev Sholom has been asked to provide hospitality. Board Nominations & Elections
Interested in joining the Board? Serving on the Board is a great way to show your commitment to the Ohev community. Per the bylaws, the shul's annual elections will be held this year on May 23. The positions that the shul will be voting for at the annual meeting are two three-year director terms ending in 2021. Programmatic Budget Discussion RESCHEDULED - Wednesday, May 9, 8pm
Please join the board for a discussion of the programmatic budget for 2018-2019. This is an opportunity to thoroughly review the budget and provide input. We have not done this before and view it akin to a DC council appropriations session, where the board will be open to suggestions on what to increase, cut, add, or eliminate in the annual programmatic budget. It will then be incumbent on the board to make any tough spending decisions. We hope you can make it.

Last Chance to Register for Spiritual Mission to Ukraine July 26-August 2 
This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the land that has left an indelible mark on the history of the Jewish people. This is the land of Holy Rabbis, Sholom Aleichem, and Golda Meir. Ukraine is the place where 1.5 million of our people were murdered in the Holocaust. We will be visiting many Holy sites. Guest Scholar Rabbi Ethan Tucker
Please join us as we welcome Rabbi Ethan Tucker as our Guest Scholar for Shabbat Emor. Rabbi Tucker is President and Rosh Yeshiva at Mechon Hadar and chair in Jewish Law. He also directs Mechon Hadar’s Center for Jewish Law and Values. There will be three opportunities to hear him speak: Shabbat morning, following Kiddush Luncheon (sponsored by Zev Lewis in appreciation of the Ohev Mincha/Maariv Minyan for enabling him to say kaddish for his father), and during Seudah Shlishit. Guest Scholar Gil Troy
Please join us as we welcome Gil Troy as our guest scholar in honor of Yom Yerushalayim. He will speak Shabbat morning and during Seudah Shlishit. Gil Troy is the author of The Zionist Ideas, which was just published by The Jewish Publication Society. Natan Sharansky has called this, Troy’s 12th book, “a magnificent work,” Troy’s “magnum opus,” and “the perfect follow-up to Arthur Hertzberg’s classic The Zionist Idea." An American presidential historian who has been featured on CNN’s popular 1980s and 1990s decade shows, he is a Distinguished Scholar of North American History at McGill University. Support DC Kosher & Celebrate Maharat Ruth & Yoni Friedman - Shabbat June 9
Supporters of DC Kosher will be sponsoring a special kiddush luncheon on Gala Shabbat (June 9) featuring a taste of new Kosher DC. The Gala Shabbat will be "celebrating five years of Ruth and Yoni," so what better way to celebrate our Vegetarian Pioneer Female Clergy than with a delicious vegan food tasting from these places? We invite you to join us! We can showcase the delicious vegan mac and cheese, the "chicken" drumsticks, the paneer, the mango lassi. Who's hungry? Our goal is to drum up business for these newly kosher establishments and celebrate this exciting news for our community. Take a look at the menus at ostns.org/kosher, and help us decide what to order! But, most importantly, please contribute through Ohev's website at ostns.org/donate.
