Please join us for a special Shabbat morning dvar Torah from Maharat Friedman which will showcase the Tzedek Committee and all of the incredible work they have done to support those in need. Also this Shabbat, we have the special honor of being visited by Noah Bar-Shain, a recent graduate of the University of Maryland. Noah will lead us in Kabbalat Shabbat services and also for Mussaf.

This week's Seudah Shlishit is sponsored by Avril & Michael Weisman in memory of their son, Phillip Rodkin.

We are saddened to announce the passing Bernard Klapper, z”l, father of Leora Klapper, father-in-law of Jerome Netter, and grandfather of Eitan, Amalia, and Liat Netter. The funeral will take place Friday, April 20 at 9am in Brooklyn. The family will be sitting shiva in Belle Harbor, NY through Tuesday evening, and in DC at their home from Wednesday morning until Thursday morning. The Ohev minyan Wednesday evening will be held at the Klapper/Netter home at 7:40pm. 

We welcome our newest members: Jacey & Amit Natanzon, and their children Shyli, Elli, & Etai.

Maharat Friedman and Rabbi Herzfeld are excited to be newly certifying as kosher several local restaurants: Everlasting Life in Capitol Heights, Evolve Restaurant and Vegaritos in Takoma Park (DC), Sweet and Natural in Mount Rainier, Khepra's Raw Food Juice Bar in DC, and Indian Delight and the Chatpat Truck in DC. Board Nominations & Elections
Interested in joining the Board? Serving on the Board is a great way to show your commitment to the Ohev community. Per the bylaws, the shul's annual elections will be held this year on May 23. The positions that the shul will be voting for at the annual meeting are two three-year director terms ending in 2021. Programmatic Budget Discussion - Wednesday, April 25, 8pm
Please join the board for a discussion of the programmatic budget for 2018-2019. This is an opportunity to thoroughly review the budget and provide input. We have not done this before and view it akin to a DC council appropriations session, where the board will be open to suggestions on what to increase, cut, add, or eliminate in the annual programmatic budget. It will then be incumbent on the board to make any tough spending decisions. We hope you can make it.

Guest Scholar Rabbi Ethan Tucker
Please join us as we welcome Rabbi Ethan Tucker as our Guest Scholar for Shabbat Emor. Rabbi Tucker is President and Rosh Yeshiva at Mechon Hadar and chair in Jewish Law. He also directs Mechon Hadar’s Center for Jewish Law and Values. There will be three opportunities to hear him speak: Shabbat morning, following Kiddush Luncheon (sponsored by Zev Lewis in appreciation of the Ohev Mincha/Maariv Minyan for enabling him to say kaddish for his father), and during Seudah Shlishit. Guest Scholar Gil Troy
Please join us as we welcome Gil Troy as our guest scholar in honor of Yom Yerushalayim. He will speak Shabbat morning and during Seudah Shlishit. Gil Troy is the author of The Zionist Ideas, which was just published by The Jewish Publication Society. Natan Sharansky has called this, Troy’s 12th book, “a magnificent work,” Troy’s “magnum opus,” and “the perfect follow-up to Arthur Hertzberg’s classic The Zionist Idea." An American presidential historian who has been featured on CNN’s popular 1980s and 1990s decade shows, he is a Distinguished Scholar of North American History at McGill University.
