As the summer draws to a close and the month of Elul begins, we would like to invite you to join us in a High Holidays Bookclub - an opportunity to learn together in advance of these days of prayer and repentance. 

We will be exploring selections from Ohr Yisrael (The Light of Israel), a work of Mussar (ethical improvement) by Rabbi Israel Salanter (1809-1883), the founder of the Mussar movement. Rabbi Salanter’s writing focuses on themes of introspection and moral development, themes that speak to the processes of self-reflection and repentance that are at the heart of this season. 

Ohr Yisrael was recently retranslated by Rabbi Yitz Greenberg and Rabbi Justin Pines. You can purchase it here, or access it on Sefaria here. 

Below is the schedule for our learning. You can learn along with us, or at your own pace, reading the selections we’ve chosen or the entire book. Each week, we will post reflections to this WhatsApp group. You can participate there, or just share your thoughts with us when you see us in shul.
